The Beauty of ‘Spring’

The Beauty of ‘Spring’

Fuck Yes! Spring of Culture is here!

Alas, The Spring of Culture has arrived and about time!

I had the pleasure of attending the opening event with the magnificent Armenian Ballet and Orchestra (well on playback anyways)

The first thing I noticed was that in the first act of the love triangle story, all the female dancers where wearing traditional Armenian dresses which included a headdress that looks similar to a hijjab, a quite cheeky response to last Spring’s controversy and would of satisfied the most hardlined custodians of tradition and religion (better known as Bahraini MPs)

I’m very sure that the gentlemen (and woman) in the Parliament won’t be talking about this year’s Spring of Culture because of the following:

  1. The EDB (Economic Development Board) in cooperation with the Sector of Culture and National Heritage and Shaikh Ebrahim Centre for Culture and Research are holding and organising the Spring of Culture, meaning that if anyone of the MPs had something to say they will have to say it to Shaikh Salman bin Hamad… I can hear them gulping already!
  2. Photographers are only able to photograph the first five minutes of the show (so a less likely chance they will snap a ’steamy’ photo).
  3. Mobile phones and cameras are not allowed into the shows (they took mine anyways) so no ringing nor annoying shutter sounds.

and reasons why this year’s spring will be much better than last year’s:

  1. Fairooz, you can’t get any classier!
  2. Much more family oriented shows such as Jump, Stomp and the Japanese Garden that the years before.
  3. The big shows in Arad Fort are extended to two and three days unlike last year where most shows were one night only and left many people cursing themselves for missing out
  4. More Bahraini artists are participating from poetry, sculpture, music, art, art, music again and the list goes on!
  5. Fayrouz (yes I changed the spelling) selling out in an hour!

Ahhhhh, what a wonderful spring..

-Ed : It’s good to be back!
