5×5x5

The Bahrain Arts Society opened the 5×5x5 Art Exhibition exhibiting the works of five Bahraini artists on the 5th of May 2007, where each of the artists exhibited 5 pieces of artwork (hence the name 5×5x5)

The artists were:
Abdulshaheed Khamdan
Ali Mubarak
Khaild Al-Tihmazi
Haamed Al-Bosta
Thuraya Hammad

The works were inspiring and there was a great contrast between yet they integrated well within the small hall of the Fine Arts Society.

Stealing the show was Abdulshaheed Khamdan, a calligrapher, who uses arabic calligraphy in most of his works brought Al-Kufi or (Kufic) calligraphy form whic is one of the oldest forms of arabic scripture predominately used to write the Holy Quran, and gave it a modern minimalistic approach by arranging a few random letters close together turning away from the more traditional arabic calligraphy works that tend to take up more of the canvas or using scriptures and verses from the Holy Quran.

Here are a few of Abdulshaheed’s works in the exhibition:
