Today’s hero of the day is Wafa Yaqoob Janahi, Bahrain’s contestant and eventual winner of Miss Arab World in where 15 Arab countries including Saudi Arabia participated in a contest in fashion, beauty as well as academics
Wafa whilst being crowned and sweating like a true Bahraini in August
Wafa’s participation in this competition was quite controversial at first. The local pro-governmental newspaper Akhbar Al-Khaleej ran an article that the Bahrain Society of Businesswomen nominated and supported Wafa to enter this competition which was going to be held in Cairo. The following day, several readers expressed their unsatisfaction of that a Bahraini girl would participate in a ‘beauty contest’ for Miss Arab World.
A few days later, Wafa herself stated in the same newspaper that the criteria of the competition did not consist of physical beauty but in humanitarian efforts, academics and personality.
And once again the following day, Akhbar Al-Khaleej announced that Wafa withdrew her participation from the competition after the ‘controversy’ surrounding her participation.
And now she goes and wins it!
Sounds like a script for a movie of the week..
But once again it goes to show that alhamdulillah Bahrainis and especially Bahraini women can achieve a lot once they put their minds on it and don’t listen to what everyone says.
منها للأعلى ان شاء الله
