Last weekend I was fortunate enough to go to Al-Dar island, and boy has it changed since the last time I’ve been a couple of years ago!
The Al-Dar island is a small desert island off the coast of the Industrial Area in Sitra, a little haven surrounded by grey factories which is kinda Adnan-wa-Leena-esque. For those who would like to visit the island you will need to go to the Sitra Fishermen’s pier just before Al-Bandar Resort and the sea taxi is available by the jetty and tickets cost 5 dinars for adults and 3 BD for children.
The island has something for everyone, you can enjoy taking a dip in the many swimming areas around the island (some of them being secluded around the back of the island which are perfect for families looking for some privacy), take a jet ski for a ride around the island (and make sure you don’t get lost!), get on the waterslide and even barbeque ( there is a beach with barbeque pits for your tikka grilling!)
The last time I went there, it was just a beach, a bar and a toilet that had no water in it and you don’t have access to all the beaches around the island.. an absolute dump!
But now, under new management, this has changed, it has transformed into a decent beach resort with plans of expansion (building chalets, more watersports etc..) in the near future, so if you’re not sure what you want to do this weekend, go to Al-Dar island for a change of scenery

was there last weekend, had a FABULOUS time!!
loved the “cold towels” and complementary watermelons
well, i guess since i’m not going anywhere anytime soon (blub blub), i might as well pass by there and change weather (اغير جو)
@amal: I’m glad that you enjoyed yourself, if you by any chance saw a fat guy carrying a camera, that was me! lol
@ammaro.com: you should my friend, and don’t let the humid weather we’re having deter you, the weather is pretty cool out there
Dear Sir,
I would like to have full info about the island and who to get their and what facilities are available and its fees.
The island is open 7 days a week and the first sea taxi to the island is from 10 am and the last sea taxi returning is by dusk usually 5-6pm
Adult tickets are at 5 BD and children are at 3 BD, and tickets include return sea taxi ticket to and from the island and entrance to the island and complimentary towels.
To reach the island you will need to go to the Sitra Fisherman’s port which is just before the Al-Bander resort.
As for facilities, there is a restaurant, toilets, jet skis, snorkeling equipment, beach and sea volleyball courts, waterslide, bar and all shores around the island are open. There are specific areas for barbeques with barbeque pits and a secluded area with is perfect for families to enjoy themselves away from the main beach
If you would like more information I can send you their number via email.
Well done to the management for last weeks party,
Lets wish there will be another one soon.
I also hope to see the water inflatable park installed soon so all young enthusiasts can have fun all day on the trampolines, water volley, ice mountain and slides.
This place is a haven for all local and expats.
I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed the Lunar Party last week, as many people really enjoyed it from what I’ve heard so far.
This is the first of eight lunar parties this season and you can check their new website http://www.aldarislands.com or their Facebook page on the latest parties and happenings on the island
Well. I went to the island with my family last week. It was fun as the weather was very good but there was NO jet ski…..
We were there mainly for JET ski ride but it was not available even there was no motor boat.BAD
Food was good but very expensive, we took the dinner from shoula restaurant and that tasted even better and the cost was quite low.
Moreover there were no complementary watermelons
So anyone from the Al Dar management, if you are reading this please improve the resort so that we can have a good outing place with lots of fun.
Hello there ppl, i am planning to go there soon.Just a couple of questions if anyone would be kind enough to reply;
1.Do i have to buy tickets in advance or can i just show up at the Sitra FisherMens Pier on a weekend before 10 am and buy them on the spot?
2.Should we return the same day or do they have lodging facilities for over night stay?
3.Whats an approximate estimate for a budget for 2 people?
Hello Ash
1. Just show up at the office at Sitra Fishermen’s Pier, although some events like the Full Moon parties need to be booked in advance as these events are highly popular!
2. It’s a tiny island, so generally you wouldn’t need to spend the night but you can stay up all night partying at the Full moon parties!
3. Not sure what the prices are now but you can visit http://www.al-darislands.com or check out their Facebook group
Hey,
I was just wondering – do you have any womens only facilities? Or any designated days where the island is only open to women?!
