Al-Dar Island

Al-Dar Island

Last weekend I was fortunate enough to go to Al-Dar island, and boy has it changed since the last time I’ve been a couple of years ago!

The Al-Dar island is a small desert island off the coast of the Industrial Area in Sitra, a little haven surrounded by grey factories which is kinda  Adnan-wa-Leena-esque. For those who would like to visit the island you will need to go to the Sitra Fishermen’s pier just before Al-Bandar Resort and the sea taxi is available by the jetty and tickets cost 5 dinars for adults and 3 BD for children.

The island has something for everyone, you can enjoy taking a dip in the many swimming areas around the island (some of them being secluded around the back of the island which are perfect for families looking for some privacy), take a jet ski for a ride around the island (and make sure you don’t get lost!), get on the waterslide and even barbeque ( there is a beach with barbeque pits for your tikka grilling!)

The last time I went there, it was just a beach, a bar and a toilet that had no water in it and you don’t have access to all the beaches around the island.. an absolute dump!

But now,  under new management, this has changed, it has transformed into a decent beach resort with plans of expansion (building chalets, more watersports etc..) in the near future, so if you’re not sure what you want to do this weekend, go to Al-Dar island for a change of scenery ;)
